In this job we painted the cabinets inside and out, We took out all of the hardware on the doors, drawers and boxes, marked everything so we know where they belong. We drilled small holes on the doors and drawer fronts so we can screw cup hooks so we can hang them. They are drilled on the side of the door that will not show. The top doors will have the cup hooks on the top of the door since it will never be seen. The bottom doors will have the cut hooks on the bottom of the door. This barely leaves a mark on the wood and can be easily touched up.
We used oil primer on this set of cabinets to make sure we don’t get any bleed throughs. The primer is by Sherwin Williams and it’s called Premium Fast Drying Primer. Very premium and dries very fast. Of course before any priming, we had to give it to full works.
Spraying Cabinets Procedure.
You know the deal, we degrease, clean, rinse, sand, dust off, wipe with bleached tack cloth, then we can finally apply some material on the wood. Big process. We actually recently got a pair of raybans stories that we were using to record all the steps to painting cabinets professionally. but we lost the glasses at a commercial job. The messed-up part was that we left them behind a counter, so only staff could had been there seen it and taken it. That’s a whole different story, I’ll probably tell it later on.
Back to the video. We used the Graco Handheld Paint Sprayer. A handheld, cordless paint sprayer with a capacity of 32 fl oz and max .2 gpm with variable flow. Pretty neat! You got to move fast with it or you’ll get drips. I have used it to spray entire exterior of houses, and the houses weren’t that small either. You’re not actually supposed to do that, I was just trying to see how far they go, and they went pretty far. Also, it wasn’t too expensive to fix it after it stopped working, we like it and think it’s a pretty neat tool to have in the arsenal. We don’t really use them much, here and there, but when we do use them, we are glad that we have them. We definitely don’t use them to paint whole houses anymore, that was just our way of testing our equipment. We now have a few of them and only use them for stuff like painting 1 or a few doors, some trim here and there, small fences. For bigger jobs we prefer to use the regular sprayers.
